My teaching journey began at Harare High shortly after I graduated from the University of Zimbabwe, since then I have taught and supported learners in schools, colleges and universities and have loved every moment.
I believe every child has the right to high-quality education and I want FHLC to provide a modern and relevant education and to have an identity built on intellectual curiosity, true independence, generous inclusivity, courage and the pursuit of excellence. I want students who attend FHLC to be higher achievers and to develop the emotional intelligence and self-awareness that allows them to adapt and flourish in a global world. As director it is my absolute responsibility to help all our students achieve up to their fullest potential and more importantly to help them develop the identity that marks them out as a true and outward looking Zimbabweans.
At FHLC we passionately believe that every student can learn when exposed to the right environment and teaching approach. Our study aids have been expertly developed over many years to carefully guide our students. We seek out teaching experts who can link the lessons taught at FHLC to what is being taught in school. Although securing high grades are important, we also need to look beyond academic qualifications and engage with the world around us. As a result, we will be launching in collaboration with our partners the Career and Skills Ready programmes soon.
FHLC seeks to be a leader in safeguarding and child protection and as director, I take great responsibility for this matter. Every tutor will receive safeguarding training when they join us. All our students have access to our specialist Safeguarding Team who are on hand to support with any problems such as well-being and personal issues. We require our tutors to have a police check and you can be rest assured your child is receiving an education from deserving professionals.
We accept the challenges in our educational system especially in an era of rapid change. We all experienced the effects Covid-19 and the disruption it caused especially on traditional learning approaches. Learning is changing at a rapid pace, and technology is a key driver of many of these changes. We are now tasked with teaching a generation of students who relate to the world through touchscreens, smartphones and social media. With this in mind we will be investing in new digital platforms and eLearning technologies in the future to ensure that FHLC stays up-to-date and delivers learning which will engage and equip students. We have an ambitious strategic plan to tackle these challenges whilst focusing on our mantra; inform, inspire and empower. Our outlook is very promising and exciting, we will seek to engage and build synergies with staff, students, educational institutions, industry, local clubs and strategic partners. I believe that if we all come together, we will build a proud education community where we support our students through the challenges and help them to grow in understanding and confidence.
Over the years in my international career I have witnessed the positive effect a well-planned learning programme have on students of all ages. I am confident that we can challenge and develop all those who come to us at whatever age or background, stretching the most able whilst supporting those who occasionally need a helping hand.

Cavin started as a teacher in Harare and he holds a BSc (Hons) from UZ, a PGCE in Science Education from the University of Greenwich and QTLS from the Institute of Education, UK. Cavin is a member of the Chartered Institute of Teachers UK. He has taught in Universities, Further Education colleges and Sixth Form colleges in the UK and in Zimbabwe. That’s important because at FHLC, we know how important it is that the extra help your get your child must have a direct link to school performance. Our team of educators and curriculum writers are behind-the-scenes constantly fine tuning our resources and improving curriculum.
Cavin also worked as an expert examiner for exam boards in the UK and has worked for over 15 years in curriculum development. His remit is to ensure that FHLC Education team stays up-to-date and delivers tuition that will help your child learn the different approaches that are expected in class. Cavin and our education teams will work with exam boards to ensure that students are taught relevant and current content.
